Subject / Architecture/Fortresses and other fortifications

Batareinaya Hill (Vyborg Town). This is the rocky hill in the east part of the town. This hill is located between Batareynaya, Sbornaya and Krepostnaya streets. The name is connected with building the Vostochnovyborgsky (East Vyborg ) Fortifications according to the project of the fortifier Totleben E.I. in 1863-64. According the project it was supposed to build four independent redoubts with the cellars for the ammunitions and three intervening batteries and the headmost bastion front, which defended the suburb from the outside of Saint Petersburg. Now only a part of brick walls and granite escarpments (on the south slope from the outside of the stadium "Avangard"). The Kalinin park of recreation and culture is located on the Batareinaya Hill. On Batareinaya Hill building public buildings and sport constructions is provided for the general plan for development of Vyborg Town.
