Izvara, a country estate (the village of Izvara, the Volosovo district). Firstly (since 1747) the grange was owned to Count K.E. Sivers. In 1872 St. Petersburg lawyer K.F. It was promoted being Old Russian burial mounds of the 11-16th centuries not far from the estate. Roerich took part in the archeological expeditions of L.K. Ivanovsky and himself researched some burial mounds. In the early 20th century Izvara was bought by the merchant A.P. Vernader who built some factories, mills, bred trout in the lake. On the eve of the Revolution of 1917 in Izvara the Agricultural School with the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God (1916-1917, the architect I.I. Yakovlev) was opened.
