"To Defenders of Leningrad Sky", memorial

The memorial "To Defenders of Leningrad Sky" is located in the urban settlement of Lebyazhye. It was created on the initiative of the Great Patriotic War veterans and openedin September 2003. The memorial represents a real low-flying attack aircraft IL-2 fixed on a pedestal. This aircraft belonged to the 232nd Assault Division of the 14th Air Army.It was found by the members of an underwater search group "Baltic" of the leningrad City Club DOSAAF (Voluntary Society of Assistance to Army, Aviation and Navy) during the expedition to Beloye Lake of the Tosno district. The detected mortal remains of the aircraft crew members were buried in the town of Lyuban. The aircaft IL-2 was restored on the drafts of the S.V. Ilyushin Design Office by teachers and cadets of the Lomonosov Military Aviation and Technical College. The monument was located on the territory of the college till 2002.
