The obelisk "Konnentable" is located on the square of the same name in the town of Gatchina. It was placed in October 1793. The obelisk was made of chernitsky limestone and fixed on the pedestal made of limestone too. The obelisk is crowned with the gilded sphere. The obelisk height is 32.8 metres. It was made by the craftsman K.A. Plastinin according to the project of V. Brenna. V. Brenna was the author of the Konnentable square ensemble in which there were bastions and guardrooms made of the Pudost limestone. In the 18th century the obelisk was the hand of the huge sun-dial: its shadow fell on the numerals drawn on the parapet. The parapet was destroyed by lightning on May 23, 1881. It was restored in1884-1886. The date "1886" was appeared on the pedestal. A lightning conductor was installed on the obelisk. Now "Konnentable" is the unofficial simbol of Gatchina.
