CINEMAS. In 1993 there were 33 cinemas in the Leningrad Oblast, on January,1 2006 10 cinemas functioned: “Vyborg Palas” (“Vyborg Palace”) (Vyborg Town), “Jubileiny” (“Jubilee”) (Siversky Urban Settlement), “Pobeda” (“Victory”) (Gatchina Town), “Oktiabr” (“October”) (Mga Urban Settlement), “Mirny” (“Peaceful”) (Lodeynoye Pole Town), “Smena” (“Successors”) (Luga Town), “Oktiabr” (“October”) (Priozersk Town), “Zarya” (“Dawn”) (Svetogorsk Town), “Sovremennik” (“Contemporary”) (Sosnovy Bor Town), “Kosmonavt” (“Cosmonaut”) (Tosno Town). Overall number of seats is 4500, annually up to 10.000 shows are held, more than 300.000 viewers, including 80.000 children. About 110 new films are on annually and nearly 1200 film reruns. Film premieres of the best home and foreign films and also reruns of films made by outstanding directors starring famous actors are also held. Cinemas house different activities dedicated to important anniversaries and historical and cultural events of Russia and the Leningrad Oblast, art exhibitions are held. Cinemas in Vyborg Town, Gatchina Town, Sosnovy Bor Town and Priozersk Town underwent reconstruction and were equipped with modern sound technique and projectors. Film festival “Okno v Evropy” “Widow to Europe” is held in the cinema “Vyborg Palas” (“Vyborg Palace”) (Vyborg Town), film festival “Literatura I Kino” (“Literature and Cinema”) – in the cinema “Pobeda” (“Victory”) (Gatchina Town).
