"Scrap style", festival

“LOSKUTNY STIL” (“PATCHWORK STYLE”), All Russia festival of traditional and modern patchwork (quilt). It was organized in2000, it is held once in two years in St.Petersburg. Founders: the Leningrad Oblast Government Culture Committee, the Leningrad Oblast Education and Methodology Centre of Culture and Art (LOEMCCA), several participants from the near and far abroad. Festival mottoes – “Muzika, Tsvety, Vesna” (“Music, Flowers, Spring”), “Rodom Iz Detstva” (“Born in Childhood”), “Vremen Svyazuyushchaya Nit” (“Time Link”). At the exhibitions one can see items made with the help of quilt technique: clothes, decorative pictures, dolls and toys, items of interior decoration, etc. Organizational and creativity base of the festival is continuing Centre of Needlework under LOEMCCA. The festival framework includes temporary exhibitions – children’s and club’s ones, fashion shows – competitive and out-of-competition ones. The festival participants observe traditional patchwork from the funds of the Russian Ethnography Museum and the Russian Museum, they take part in theme seminars and master classes. The festival geographical coverage is constantly extending, the number of participants and their works is increasing. Masters from quilt clubs “Gatchina” (Gatchina Town) and “Shtuchka” (“One of a Kind”) (Sosnoviy Bor Town) many times became prize-winners of All Russia and International contests.
