Trezzini, Dominiko (ca. 1670-1734), an architect

Dominiko Trezzini (ca. 1670-1734), an architect. He was of Switzerland origin. He arrived into Russia in 1703. The stone Peter and Paul Fortress, SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Summer Palace of Peter I in the Summer Garden were built and Krostadt and the Alexander Nevski Monastery were laid according to D. Trezzini's projects. Trezzini was the author of the first general layout of St. Petersburg, the planning of Vasilyevsky Island, projects of model houses and estates. From 1722 Trezzini headed the building works in the Shlisselburg Fortress: he finished the building of barracks that was begun by I.G. Ustinov in 1717, built the wooden palace of Peter I, built mansions for A.D. Menshikov and the commandant of the fortress, reconstructed the Clock and Bell Towers. Dominiko Trezzini owned the estate in St. Petersburg Gubernia (see the article: Bolshoye Zarechye Village). He was buried in the Sampsoniyevskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg (the grave was not survived).
