The Tikhvin Conversation Monastery of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (the town of Tikhvin). It is the first monastery within the boundariests of the contemporary town of Tikhvin. It was founded between 1510 and 1515baccording to the order of Great Prince Vasily III Ioannovich on the place the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker to the cleric George and the conversation with him (from this it follows the name of the monastery). In the monastery there was the ancient icon picturing this event. Originally the place of the miraculous appearance was marked with the wooden church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. After the foundation of the monastery the stone church was built on the place of wooden one. Two stone churches - the church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the church of the Beheading of St.John the Precursor - were built in the 1560s. In 1613 the headquarters of the Swedish commander Evert Horn was placed in the monastery. The monastery was burned by Swedes. It was renewed in 1648, at the same time the side-altar of the Nativity of the Mather of God was built to the cathedral. Dositheus, a preacher of the Old Belief, who was hold in high esteem as a Saint among followers of the Old Belief, was the Superior of the monastery during 1662-1669. The monastery was closed in 1764 and renewed in 1774 in the connection with closing the Tikhvin Borovinsky Monastery of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1815-1818 a bell-tower was built. Under the hieromonk Sosthenes (he managed the monastery durin 1832-1853) the Classicism style ensemble of the monastery was formed. The Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (1842-1845) and the church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God (1829-1837) were built. A part of the old church of the Beheading of St.John the Precursor was preserved as a side-altar. A stone building for the Superior (1836) and three brethren buildings (1848-1849) were built. A well chapel, where an esteem cross was kept, was built in 1843 at the main road. The monastery was closed in 1924, churches were closed in 1929-1931. In November-December 1941 was suffered during offensive battles of the Red Army, all buildings were completely demolished after 1945. A motor-car enterprise is plced on the monastery territory. A wooden chapel was constructed in the memory of the monastery opposite the place where the monastery was located in the early 2000s.
