SAVITSKY, Konstantin Apollonivich (1844–1905), an artist. He graduated from the St.Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts (1871). He trained painting in Paris up to 1874. In 1872 he became a member and one of the most active workers of the Circle of Itinerants (Association of mobile art exhibitions - Peredvizhniki). His best works are genre paintings depicting everyday life of ordinary people: “Remonthye Raboty na Zheleznoy Doroge” (“Railway Road Repair Works”) (1874), “Pogoreltsy” (“Homeless Victims of a Fire”), “Temnye Liudy” (“The Ignorant”)(1882), “Na Voiny” (“To War”)(1880-88), “Spor na Mezhe” (“Argument on the Land Boundary”)(1897). Savitsky was a full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts (since 1895), academician of painting (since 1897). In 1891 he moved to Moscow, he worked as a teacher at Moscow College of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and then at Penza City Arts College (since 1897 – a head teacher). Among his students one can find his son – G.K. Savitsky, K.F. Yuon. Since 1862 he started to visit St.Petersburg suburbs – the Karelian Isthmus, Toksovo Village for work and recreation. Several times Savitsky visited Luga Town suburbs: Domkino estate owned by an astronomer S.P. Glazenap; Kalganovka Village near Serebryanka Railway Station. Summer 1872 he spent with I.N. Kramskoy and I.I. Shishkin in Ilzho estate.
