The Lutheran Church of St. George (Kolbino Village, Vsevolzhsk District)

Subject / Religion. Church/Churches of other confessions

The Lutheran Church of St. George (Kolbino Village, the Vsevolozhsk District). A Finnish parish was on that territory from the early 17th century. A self-dependent community in the village of Koltudhi was organised in 1646, from 1724 there was a permanent pastor. A wooden church for 800 seats was built and consecrated in 1768, it was overhaulled in 1835 and 1884-1885. During 1808-1908 parishes Koltushi (Keltto) and Rybovo were united. In 1917 in the parish there were 7324 parishioners, in 1928 there were 8150 parishioners. In 1938 the church was closed after the arrest and death of the last pastor Abraham Koskelainen. Preacherness Katry Kukkonen, who substituted the pastor, was arrested and exiled (she returned to Koltushi in 1979). The church building was destroyed during 1939-1940. In the early 1990s in the village of Kolbino a new stone church was built, in October 1992 it was consecrated. It was the first Finnish church buit after 1917 in the Leningrad Oblast territory; the Theological Institute of the Ingria Lutheran Church named after S.-Ya. Laurikkala was opened close to the church.
