Maykov, Apollon Nikolayevich (1821 - 1897), a poet, prosaist, Corresponding Member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1853), Privy Councillor (1883). A.N. Maykov graduated from the faculty of law of the Petersburg Universitet in 1841. From 1844 A.N. Maykov was a bibliographer of the Rumyantsev Museum, from 1852 he was a censor and from 1875 till the end of his life A.N. Maykov was the Head of the Foreign Censorship Committee. Maykov's home in Saint Petersburg was a famous literary and art salon in the 1840s. He started to write poems in the age of 15. Maykov is the author of poems: "Mashenka" (1846), "Rybnaya Lovlya" ("The Fishing", 1856), "Tree smerti" ("Three Deathes", 1857), "Strannik" ("The Pilgrim", 1867), "Knyazhna" ("The Princess", 1878), "Dva Mira" ("Two Worlds", 1882), the translation (exposition) "Slovo o polku Igoreve" ("The Song of Igor's Campaign", 1870) and others. A.N. Maykov was buried at the Novodevichye Cemetery in St. Petersburg. From 1878 Maykov spent every summer in Siversky settlement at his own country-house in Tserkovnaya Street (now it is Siversky urban settlement of the Vsevolozhsk District, Krasnaya Street; the house was not survived). In the late 1880s - early 1890s Maykov was an initiator and he participated actively in building the Church of St. Paul and St. Peter , people's school for peasants' children (21 Krasnaya Street) and a library with reading room (the house was not survived). In 1883 the painter I.N. Kramskoy painted the portrait of Maykov in Siversky settlement.
