Sokolov-Mikitov, Ivan Sergeyevich (1892-1975), a writer. From 1910 Sokolov-Mikitov attended the Higher Agricultural School in St. Petersburg (he did not graduated from it). He worked as a member of the staff of the newspaper "Revelsky rabochy" ("The Revel Worker"), he worked as a sailor on mercantile marines. During World War I he was a volunteer nurse boy, a motor-mechanic in the aircraft detachment of heavy bombers "Iliya Muromets". During 1920-1922 Sokolov-Mikitov lived in England and Germany. After returning to the Motherland Sokolov-Mikitov travelled much, participated in several polar expeditions. Sokolov-Mikitov's first published work is the tale "Sol zemli" ("The Salt of the Earth", 1916). Sokolov-Mikitov is the author of books: "Zasuponya" (1918), "Kuzovok" ("A Small Basket", 1921), "Chizhikova Lavra" (1926), "Gol perekatnaya" ("The Utterly Destitute", 1927), "Na rechke Nevesnitse" ("On the River Nevestnitsa", 1928), "Yelena" (1929), "Puti korablya" ("Ways of the Ship", 1934), "Letyat Lebedi" ("Swans Are Flying", 1936), "Severniye rasskazi" ("The North Stories", 1939), "Na probuzhdennoy zemlye" ("On the Awoken Land", 1941), "Rasskazi o Rodine" ("Stories about the Motherland", 1947), "Lisyi uvertki" ("Fox's Dodges", 1956), "Bylitsi" ("True Stories", 1962), "Na svoyey zemle" ("In the Native Land", 1969), and others. During 1929-1933 Sokolov-Mikitov lived in Krasnogvardeysk Town (Gatchina Town). He was buried at the Gatchina Cemetery. . В
