The Kingisepp Museum od the Local History (Kingisepp Town, 1 Karl Marks Prospekt). The museum was founded on November 5, 1960 фссщквштп the initiative of the Public Soviet. D.I. Smolsky, one of the Public Soviet leaders, became the first manager of the museum. In 1978 the permanent exhibition "Stary Yamburg" ("Old Yamburg") (the artist A.G. Skryagin) opened in the Cathedral of St. Catherine the Great Martyr. The Exhibition worked until 1990. In connection with returning the cathedral to the Orthodox community, the museum mooved into the building of the former Yamburg Commercial College built in 1909 by the engineer K.K. Vasilyev at the place of the Yam Fortress near the Luga River. There are more then 15 thousand items in the museum funds. The permanent exhibitions: "The History Past of the Yamburg Region", "Yamburg Town Dwellers (materials on the history of Yamburg of the late 19th century - the early 20th century)", "The Kingisepp District during World War II in 1941-1945", "Yamburg - Kingisepp on photographs of 1912-2001" and others work at the museum. About 6 thousand people visit the museum every year.
