The memorial museum of N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov (Tikhvin Town, 12 Rimsky-Korsakov Street), a branch of "The Museum Agency". The museum was founded in July of 1944 in the house built by Pyetr Vinovich, the composer's grandfather, in the early 19th century. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov was born in this house on 6 (18) March of 1844, his childhood was spent here. The first exposition was created to the 100th anniversary of N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov's birth with active participating the composer's descendants which passed more then 70 memorial things into the museum. In the 1970s the museum complex was added with a garden and small park where the monument to the composer (created by the sculptors N.V. Dydykin and N.S. Bolotsky, the architect K.M. Mitrofanov) was installed. The museum concert hall, where instrumentalists and vocalists perform and sound recording concerts sound, was made in the former Regiment Church buildin in 1987. During 1980-1984 the mansion of the Rimsky-Korsakovs was restored according to the project of the architect V.V. Ekk, the engineer I.P. Lyubarov. The restaration of interiors was carried out on the basis of nature researches and archival documents. The contemporary exposition includes six memorial rooms of the ground floor (the entrance-room, father's study, two lounges, mother's room) and rooms in the attic storey. There are 15 thousand items in the museum funds. Among the most valuable exhibits there is the grand piano of "Bekker" Company at that the composer created the most part of his works, children's things and drawings of Rimsky-Korsakov. Every year in March the museum hold Musiv Days devoted to the memory of Rimsky Korsakov. The average number of visitors is 24 thousand people a year.
