LAMPOVO, a village in Gatchina District. Population: 1500. First mentioned in 1715 when Crown Prince Alexei Petrovich who owned that land ordered to send sifted flour for the brewer “from Lampov village to Petersburg.” Possibly it was in Peter the Great’s epoch that Old Believers appeared there, whose household and traditions has imprinted on the appearance of L. Along Central Street crossing the Lampovka River there are log houses on tall ground floors decorated with craved frets, with adjacent roofed yards. Among them are the Safronovs’ house (1884), the Prokhorovs’ house (1850s), the Kuzmins’ house (1854) etc. The Parfeyevs’ house has retained fragments of the 1863 murals in the form of flower vases and lions. An Old Believer prayer hall has survived in Bertovka Street. It was built in the early 20th c. with contribution from D. A. Tikhanov, the village senior and owner of local shops. Tikhanov’s house (built in 1890–1904) in Central Street was on the State register, but became ruined in the 1990s due to the lack of funds for its restoration. The stone primary school building has survived; the school was built in 1910 for the donations of Prince G. F. Wittgenstein who owned the surrounding lands. On the bank of the Lampovka there is an Old Believer graveyard with a wooden chapel. Since 1946, the prayer hall of Old Believers of the Pomor Consent has been officially functioning in L.
