PASHOZERO, a village in Tikhvin District. Population: 531. Located on the north-western shore of a lake of the same name. A motor road connects P. to Tikhvin Town and localities of the north-eastern part of the district. First mentioned in a Novgorod birchbark manuscript of the 2nd half of the 14th c. The information of Pashozersky Pogost is dated later. Today’s village extends for 3 km along the lake shore. P. has both wooden houses and comfortable three-storey buildings (their block was erected in the late 20th c.) The name of the village’s quarters reflect the history of its development: Pogost, Panyovo, Tsarsky Posyolok, Skoplyaevo, Stroika. Some buildings of cultural and historic value have survived: several peasant huts, a manor house of a former landowner’s estate, and a barn. In the center of P. there is an obelisk in honor of the village people killed in action during WWII. A chapel is erected close by (2005). P. has a culture house, library, folk handicraftsmen’s school, and museum of the “Veps Forest” natural park, in whose territory the village is situated.
