The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "the Sign" (Ivangorod Town)

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "the Sign" (Ivangorod Town). The church was built from the local limestone during 1786-1796 on the place of a dilapidated wooden church. Money for building were given by inhabitants of the Ivangorod fortress. The building was constructed in the provincial classicism style with elements of the Baroque style. There were side-chapels: the chapel of the Raising of the Holy Cross and the chapel of the Prophet Elijah. Originally the church was used as the garrison one, in 1883 it was icluded into the Eparchy department and added to the cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ in the town of Narva. From 1848 the church became the centre of the independent parish. The icon of the Mother of God "The Sign" was the main object of worship of the cathedral (from 1945 it was placed in the Narva Cathedral of the Resurrection. The winter church of St. Nicholas , built during 1852-1854, was added to the church; in 1903 it was included into the Estonian Othodox community. In 1919 it was suffered during military operations, Archpriest Dimitry Chistoserdov, St. Martyr, the church superior from 1889, was shot by Bolsheviks on 8 January 1919 (he was buried in the church fence and canonized). The church was repaired in 1923 and 1934. In 1944 it was suffered during battles, in 1946 it was was destroyed.
