Subject / Religion. Church/Orthodox churches

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God (Syasstroi Town, 77a Lenin Street). The stone church in the provincial Baroque style, crowned with five onion-shaped domes, was built in 1751. The church was devided with a wall in two halves - the easten and western (warm) ones, there were two altars in the every half. During 1819-1816 a stone bell tower was built, in 1829 the iconostasis and icon-cases were gilded, in 1859 after the rebuilding the church was consecrated. Among shrines there was the especially honoured icon of the Dormition of the Mother of God, with which the legend about life-saving of some local dwellers from the Swedish captivity in the 17th century was connected. In 1917 four chapels were attached to the church, one of them - stone chapel of the Dormition (the end of the 19th century) is survived on the Syas River left bank. The church was closed according to the Leningrad Oblast Executive Committee resolution of 15 January 1939. From the 1950s the church was not used and fell to ruins. In 1962 the bell tower dome with the spire fell during a storm. A community was organised in 2000, in 2002 the parish was established and a dean was appointed. The first worship was performed on 1 March 2003. During 2003-2006 domes and crosses were restored, the roof and walls were repaired. In the church there are icons of saints whom the church side-chapels are devoted.
