The Church of All Saints (Tikhvin Town)

Subject / Religion. Church/Orthodox churches

The Church of All Saints ("The Regiment Church" ) (Tikhvin Town, 12 Rimsky-Korsakov Street ). The original wooden church was built probably from 1727 to 1743 on the place of the former chapel on the bank of the River Tikhvinka, where, according to the legend, the appearance of the Icon of the Mother of God "Hodigitria" ("Tikhvinskaya") took place. The church was dismantled in 1771. The stone church, in the transitional style from the baroque style to the early classicism style, was built probably to the design of the Tver architect V.S. Polivanov on the place of the former church in 1771-1775. The plan of building was the octagonal frame stretched from the west to the east, the octagonal lantern with a small dome was constructed above the building. The church was consecrated in 1775. The church was temporary attached to the Hussar Regiment (therefore it was named as "The Regiment Church"). The church was slightly rebuilt in 1886. It was closed on 16 June 1939. In the 1980s the restoration work was done (the architect I.P. Lyubarova ), the church building was transferred to the concert hall of the Rimsky-Korsakov memorial house-museum.
