Subject / Religion. Church/Orthodox churches

The Church of Sainted Hierach Nicholas the Wonderworker (Schlüsselburg Town, 2 Red Square ). The original wooden church was built in 1737-1739, it was transferred into the village of Gavsar ( now the Kirovsky District, the village is not survived ). Small church was built in the baroque style in 1770, it was reconstructed in 1851-1853 (the architect А.I. Shvetsov) and the dome with high piramidal roof was built. Facades were decorated by casings which were typical of the 1730s. The church was placed at the south (side) façade of the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Mother of God. The church, together with the Cathedral and the stone Kazan chapel (it was built by the architect G.Ershov in 1847 or 1864), is the main architectural ensemble of the city. The miracle-working Kazan icon of the Mother of God was moved into the church from the Kazan chapel in 1923 . The church was closed on 15 February 1933, it was adapted for a canteen then it was adapted for a factory, the additional ceiling was constructed in the church. The church was seriously damaged by the artillery fire during WWII. The church was returned to believers in 1995. The religious services are performed regularly. The restoration work is continued.
