VOLKHOV TOWN CHILDREN’S MUSICAL SCHOOL NAMED AFTER JAN SIBELIUS (3, Yarvenpyaya st., Volkhov Town). It was opened in 1952, in 1992 it moved to a specially built building. Sponsor is Municipal Institution “Volkhovsky Raion” (“Volkhov District”) administration. The main specializations are: the piano, violin, button accordion, accordion, domra, balalaika, guitar, flute, trombone, percussion instruments, choreography, variety performance; the school also has a choir class. 330 students, aged from3 to 18, study at school. Since 2003 an educational program of an early aesthetic development has been offered to children aged 3. The school houses a philharmonic society, school teachers and students hold musical evenings. In the school concert hall season concerts “Vechera Kamernoy Muzyky” (“Evenings of Chamber Music”) are held, festivals and contests including the oblast festival-contest of children’s musical and artistic creativity “Vesenny Kluch” (“Spring Spring”) take place. In 2005 the school was regarded the best culture institution in town and awarded an honorary diploma by the Volkhov Town mayor for great achievements in the field of education and culture.
