SOLERTINSKY, Ivan Ivanovich (1902–1944), art historian, critic, teacher. In 1923 he graduated from Petrograd Institute of Arts History, in 1924 – Romance and Germanic department at social sciences faculty of the Leningrad State University. Since the beginning of 1920s Solertinsky delivered lectures on the history of music and musical theatre at Choreography School, Theatre Institute, History of Arts Institute, Pedagogical Institute. In the periods 1930-31 and 1935-41 he worked as a teacher at the Conservatory, in 1939 he became a professor. In the period 1929-44 Solertinsky worked as an editor, a lecturer, a head of the repertoire department and a publishing house of the Leningrad Philharmonic Society, since 1940 he was a creative director. Solertinsky was an author of articles on West European musical classics, choreography, theatre art, literature and also on Soviet and modern foreign music. Since 1941 Solertinsky was in evacuation with the Philharmonic Society in Novosibirsk City, where he died. In the end of 1930s he spent summer time in the country house in Toksovo Settlement.
