THE LODEYNOYE POLE CENTRAL TOWN LIBRARY (14 Lenin Prospekt, Lodeynoye Pole Town). It took over from the reading library, which was opened in 1905 by Trust on Public Sobriety. Operating after the revolution of 1917 as a uyezd library, it was closed in the years of the Great Patriotic War and then it was reopened in 1944. Its general-purpose fund numbers over 35,000 items and it is used by around 3,000 readers annually with up to 80,000 loans of books and periodicals a year. In 1975 it acquired the status of a central library, integrating the district libraries (since 1994 named as Lodeynoye Pole union of municipal libraries). The library participates in the programme of serving disabled people, children from deprived families and other socially unprotected groups.
