Zapolye, a country estate

Zapolye, a country estate (the settlement of Volodarskoye, the Luga district). In 1804 the State Councillor Ya. S. Mirkovich owned the estate. Under him wooden outhouses, service buildings, a brick-yard and workshops were built. Since 1819 F.Ya. Mirkovich, his son, started to rebuilt Zapolye. The stone workshops was rebuilt in the manor-house, in front of it a parterre garden with three round lawns were laid out. Terraces with support walls and stone stairs on the steep slope to Lake Vrevo was made. On the shore a regular style garden was laid out. The Mirkovichs owned Zapolye till 1883, then the estate was sold to Artillery Major-General P.A. Bilderling. He transformed Zapolye in a profitable enterprise: breeded pedigree cattle, built a dairy, creamery, stud-farm, saw-mill, created fruit trees nursery. The lawyer P.P. Bildering, the next owner of Zapolye, built a Gothic style chapel in the park in the memory of his father in 1913. Zapolye is one of few eatates of the Luga district where general traits of the estate planning and most of old constructions.
