"Concertina", orchestra of accordionists

“GARMONIKA” (“Accordion”), accordionists’ orchestra. It was founded in 1950 by a teacher Savin F.F. on the base of accordionists’ orchestra at Gatchina Town children’s music school named after Ippolitov-Ivanov . Its present name the orchestra acquired in 1990. Nowadays it is one of the leading accordionists’ orchestras in Russia, it numbers more than 60 musicians. Repertoire of the orchestra includes pieces of music written by Russian and foreign composers. Since 1995 Gatchina Town orchestra has been an active participant of All Russia and international contests and festivals held in Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Belgium, Italy, etc., such as: “Baltika-Garmonica” (“The Baltic-Accordion”), “Zvezdy Bayana I Accordeona” (“Button Accordion and Accordion Stars”), “Salut Pobedy” (“Victory Salute”), “Petropavlovskiye Assambley” (“Peter and Paul’s Assemblies”), etc. The orchestra has been awarded a great number of prizes at different festivals including a festival «Sata-Hame Soy» in Finland (2001, honorary prize), “Nadezhdy. Talanty. Mastera.” (“Hopes.Talants.Masters.”) in Bulgaria (2002, Grand Prix), European Music Festival ( Neerpelt, Belgium; 2005, Grand Prix), etc. Annually the orchestra performs about 20 concerts at St.Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast venues. The orchestra is a regular participant of the film festival “Literarura I Kino” (“Literature and Cinema”). From 1990 a creative director and a chief conductor of the orchestra is Kazantsev V.N.
