State Peasant University named after St. Cyril and St. Methodius

PEASANTS’ STATE UNIVERSITY NAMED AFTER KIRILL AND MEFODIY (KGU(“PSU”)) (73, Kirov av., Luga Town). It was founded according to resolution issued on 26 of June 1991 by the Executive Committee of Luga Town local authorities as Peasants’ Academic University on the initiative and with assistance of Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences (PANI). The first chancellor (up to 1995) – PANI president, professor L.A. Maiboroda. In 1995 on the base of the university Luga peasants’ institute was founded, in 1997 it was transformed into Peasants’ State University (in 2001-04 its name was Peasants’ State Institute); in 1998 it was named after Slavic enlighteners Kirill and Mefodiy. In 2006 there were several departments: pedagogy, arts, bioengineering, economy, law, landscape architecture, vocational school. The university has its branches in Tosno Town and Slantsi Town. Since 1997 KGU has been holding inter-regional reading named after Kirill and Mefodiy (annually or biannually) and some other conferences including international ones. The university publishes conference proceedings, educational and methodological literature, books about local history prepared by the university teachers (“Luzhskiy Krai” (“Luga Land”): Literary miscellany. Vol.1. Luga Town, 2002; V.I. Khrisanfov “Neznakomaya Luga” (“Unknown Luga”). Luga Town, 2004, etc.). Since 1997 a newspaper “Vestnik KGI” (“KGI Herald”) has been issued.
