"The Golden Cockerel", a children musical festival

“ZOLOTOY PETUSHOK” (“GOLDEN ROOSTER”), oblast children’s contest-festival. It has been held since 2002 among the young soloists and art groups representing the Leningrad Oblast as well as towns and villages from other regions of Russia. Founders – the Leningrad Oblast Government Culture Committee, the Leningrad Oblast Developing Centre of Children’s Extra Education “Ladoga”, Administration of Municipal Institution “Tikhvinsky Munitsipalny Raion” (“Tikhvin Municipal District”) and Tikhvin Town. The participants are aged from 5 to 18. The contest is held in three nominations: academic singing; pop, folk and children’s song. The festival takes place in April and lasts for two days. On the first day, after the opening ceremony, the contest of soloists is held. On the second day – contest programmes of art groups and also master classes for the leaders of art groups, round tables with the Jury members, the closing ceremony are held. Competent Jury assesses the repertoire of soloists and art groups, their mastery, singularity and professionalism. Its name the festival has obtained due to the same name opera of N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, a native of Tikhvin Town.
