"Vyborgskiye vedomosti" ("Vyborg Gazette"), a newspaper

"Vyborgskiye vedomosti" ("Vyborg Gazette") (Vyborg, 6 Sovetskaya Street),social, political newspaper. It has been publishing since February 1990, initially as «a newspaper of free economic zone», the project of which was not fulfilled. Since December 1996 it is independent publishing house , owners and publishers are members of editorial staff. Since the end of the 1990s the newspaper «Vyborgskiye vedomosti» has been printed in their own printing house and existeb due to circulation, advertisements , printing orders. At present it is publishing twice a week, on Tuesdays - 40 sections, on Fridays -44 sectios( about 50 % -private ads), circulation is 7,5 thousand. It reflects a wide range of problems– from local authorities' policy and town self-government to federal and international events; the newspapere tries to establish a civil society, it allows different opinions . The slogan of "Vyborgskiye vedomosti" is «Major newspaper for a small town». In a newspaper a lot of attention is paid to conservation of monuments of culture and history , there are plenty of them in Vyborg (column «Local time»,where Y.Y. Kepp used to work). Annually since 1998, in the middle of August, it has organised unique competitions «Running on vertical line», running up the winding staircase of Saint Olaf's tower of Vyborg's castle, to get a prize of "Vyborgskiye vedomosti".
