Skornyakov - Pisarev, Grigory Grigoryevich (1686 - 1747), an architect

Grigory Grigoryevich Skornyakov - Pisarev (1686 - 1747), a military engineer, Major-General (1722). As a scholar of Peter I Grigory Grigoryevich Skornyakov - Pisarev studied mathematics in Berlin. During 1718-1721 he led the construction of the Ligovsky Canal in St. Petersburg (it was covered up with earth in 1891). During 1719-1723 Skornyakov - Pisarev built the Ladoga Canal (see the article: the Ladoga Canals) according to his own project. From 1719 he was the President of the St. Petersburg Naval Academy, during 1722-1727 he was the chief-prosecutor of the Senate. In 1727 Skornyakov - Pisarev was exiled to Kamchatka, from 1731 he led the construction of the Okhotsk port. In 1743 Grigory Grigoryevich Skornyakov - Pisarev returned to St. Petersburg.
