ANDREYEV, Pavel Zakharovich (1874, Osmino Settlement, Gdov Uyezd, St.Petersburg Gubernia – 1950), singer, teacher, public and music figure. In 1875 his family moved to St.Petersburg where he studied from tutors singing and acting. In 1893 he moved to Moscow, he sang in the choir of M.V. Lentovsky’s “Letnyaya Opera” (“Summer Opera”), sang at the audience, studied at Moscow Synod College of Church Singing (1893-98). In 1898 Andreyev entered St.Petersburg Conservatory. In 1903 he performed on the stage of St.Petersburg and Moscow theatres, in the period 1907-09 he worked at Kiev Opera. In the period 1909-48 Andreyev worked as a soloist at Mariinsky Theatre. He toured a lot. In the periods 1919-28 and 1934-50 he worked as a teacher at the Leningrad Conservatory, in 1926 he became a professor, in 1939 – the People’s Artist of the USSR (1939). In 1941 Andreyev gave more than 600 concerts to the soldiers of the Leningrad Front, visiting many settlements in Gatchina District, Luga District, etc. Andreyev died in Leningrad, he was buried in St.Petersburg Tikhvin Cemetery in Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
