LYAPUNOV, Sergey Mikhaylovich (1859 – 1924), composer, pianist, conductor. In 1883 he graduated from Moscow Conservatory (his teachers were S.I. Taneyev, P.A. Pabst and К. Klindwort) and started to teach there. In 1885 he moved to St.Petersburg. Since 1890 he worked as a music teacher at Nicholas Corps of Pages. In the period 1894-1902 he worked as an assistant of a choirmaster of the Court Choir. Since 1908 he worked as a head teacher at a Free Musical School. In the period 1910-23 Lyapunov worked as a Conservatory professor, since 1919 he worked as a professor at the Institute of Arts History. He performed as a pianist and conductor and toured a lot. Lyapunov is an author of symphonies, symphony poems, spiritual music, piano concerts, pieces of music, 120 love songs. He died during his tour in Paris. In the period 1896–1901 Lyapunov spent summer months in Gatchina Town, having close connections with M.A. Balakirev, who also lived there. Lyapunov’s addresses in Gatchina Town: in 1896 – 4, Mariinskaya st.(modern Kirgetova st.), in 1897-98 – 17, Nikolayevskaya st. (modern Uritskogo st.), in 1899 – 4, Novaya st. (modern Leonova st.) and 7, Aleksandrovskaya st. (modern Volodarskogo st.), in 1900-01 – 43, Nikolayevskaya st.
