KUZMOLOVSKY, an urban settlement in Vsevolozhsk District. Population: 9,700. It is situated at Kuzmolovo railway station of the St. Petersburg-Priozersk branch (opened in 1917), with the ring motor road extending near the settlement. The toponym originates from the Orthodox name Kuzma (Finnish and Karelian “Kuisma”; kuisma (Finnish) also means St. John’s wort.) It was mentioned in 1896 as Kuzmolovo, part of Varkolovo village. When the Pilot Factory of the State Institute of Applied Chemistry was set up there, K. was granted the status of an urban settlement in 1961. K. has a culture center, and a children’s school of music sponsoring the "Arkangelo " ancient baroque music ensemble (since 1994) and the "Crescendo" ensemble of accordion players (с 1996). In 2003, an Orthodox parish was registered, and the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Quick to Hearken" is under construction. The Radio Kuzmolovo (Independent Radio) has been broadcasting since 2004.
