Gorky, Maksim (Aleksey Maksimovich Peshkov) (1868-1936), a literary man

Maksim Gorky (the real name is Aleksey Maksimovich Peshkov; 1868-1936), a writer, playwright, publicist, public figure. Gorky participated in January events of 1905 in Saint Petersburg, after which he was imprisoned into the Peter and Paul Fortress. Gorki was released on February 14, 1905 in connection with protests of cultural workers of Russia and foreign contries. From the early 1906 Gorki lived abroad. After the general amnesty of 1913 Gorky returned into Russia and settled not far from the Railway Station Mustamyaki (now it is the Railway Station Gorkovskoye) in Kiryavala village (now it is Gorkovskoye settlement, the Vyborg District) at M.F. Andreyeva's sister E.F. Krit (the house was not survived). At the beginning of June 1914 he mooved to Neyvola village (now it is included into Gorkovskoye settlement) into house owned to A.K. Gorbik-Lange (there is a commemorative plaque). Gorky lived there till the beginning of July 1917 coming into Leningrad City at regular intervals. Living in Neyvola he wrote the narrative "V lyudyakh" ("In the World"), stories of the cycle "Po Rusi" ("In Russia"), the play "The Old Man". I.P. ladyzhnikov and A.N. Tikhonov lived at Gorky's country house for a long time. F.I. Chaliapin, S.V. Malyshev, D.N. Semenovsky, M.M. Prishvin, L.N. Andreyev, V.V. Mayakovsky, D.D. Burkyuk, I.I. Brodsky, Vaan Teryan, Akop Gyurdzhyan and others visited Gorky's country house. In august 1917 M. Gorky visited the Petrograd tobacco factories workers children's home located in Siversky settlement.
