Guro, Yelena Genrikhovna (1877-1913), a poet, artist, a representative of the Russian avant-garde. She learned at the Drawing School of the Art Encouragement Society (1890), at the workshop of Ya.F. Tsioglinsky (1903-1906) and then at the school of Ye.V. Zvantseva under the direction of L.S. Bakst and and M.V. Dobuzhinsky. Her first story "Rannyaya vesna" ("The Early Spring") was published in 1905; the first book of stories and poems "Sharmanka" ("The Barrel Organ") was published in 1909. In 1910 Guro participated in creating the collection "Sadok sudey" ("A Hutch of Judges"). In 1906 she married to the artist and composer M.V. Matyushin. The young poets' and artists' club which transformed into "The Union of Youth" (P. Filonov, M. Larionov, K. Malevich, O. Rosanova, V. Tatlin and others were members of the club) had meetings in the Guro and Matyusin's flat from end of 1909. Yelena Guro usually spent summers in Bolshaya Izhora settlement located close to Oraniyenbaum Town and at the country house in Uusikirkko on the Karelian Isthmus (now it is Polyani settlement of the Vyborg District). Yelena Genrikhovna Guro died in Saint Petersburg, he was buried in Uusikirkko. Chekanova, Olga Aleksandrovna
