Pleshcheyev, Aleksey Nikolayevich (1825-1893), a writer. He attended the Military School of Life Guard Warrant Officers and Cavalry Cadets from 1849 till 1842 and the History and Philological Faculty of the St. Petersburg University during 1843-1845, but did not graduate from it. From 1845 Pleshcheyev attended M.V. Butashevich-Petrashevsky's "Fridays" and in 1849 he was arrested and sentenced to death (it was replaced by four year of hard labour, then by serving as soldier in the Orenburg Gubernia. In 1859 Pleshcheyev returned from the exile into Moscow. From 1872 he lived in St. Petersburg. Pleshcheyev worked as the Secretary of the magazine "Otechestvenniye zapiski" (“Notes of the Fatherland”) editorial staff and from 1878 he was the head of the poetry department. From 1885 Pleshcheyev was the head of the literary department of the magazine "Severny vestnik" ("The North Herald"). Pleshcheyev's works were published from 1844. His first poet collection was published in 1846. The special fame got the poem "Vpered! Bez strakha I somneniya.." ("Forward! Without Fear and Doubt…") which became the hymn of several generations of the democratic youth. Collections "Stikhotvireniya" ("Poems", 1887) and "Pesni starogo druga" ("Songs of the Old Friend", 1891) became the result of his creative development. At the end of his life Pleshcheyev supported young writers: V.M. Garshin, S.Ya. Nadson, A.N. Apukhtin and others. In the 1880s during several years Pleshcheyev rented a summer cottage in Starosiverskaya village (5 Bolshoy Prospekt; the house was not survived). In summer of 1884 S.Ya. Nadson lived at Pleshcheyev's country house.
