VISTINO, a village in Kingisepp District. Population: 909.It is known from the 17th century. It is located on the western coast of the Soikino Peninsula, the area of the most compact population of the Izhora, whose history and culture is related to sea fishing (Baltic herring catching and tinned sprat making.) Located in V. is the head office of the Baltika fishing collective farm, trawler boats base, and fish smokehouse. In the environs of V., ground burials of a prehistoric Baltic Finnish tribe were found. V. is the center of the Izhora culture revival, with the Izhora ethnic museum established in it. The culture center accommodates the “Fisherwoman” folk group whose musicians collect and perform songs in the Izhorian language. In 2004, an Izhorian holiday was celebrated in V.
