Korobitsino, settlement

KOROBITSINO, a settlement in Vyborg District. Population: 1200. Established in 1948 by integration of the villages of Päivilä, Sakastila, Pentsilä, Aliskapa, Sakkalila. Initially it was named Srednegorye; in the late 1948 it was renamed K. in memory of border guard A. I. Korobitsin who was killed fighting with border trespassers in 1927. In the 1990s, K. became an Alpine ski center including the resorts Krasnoye Ozero, Zolotaya Dolina, and Snezhny. Sporting competitions are held there – in freestyle, alpine skis, and snowboard, in particular, the Cup of Europe in freestyle since 2004. In 2003, the “Summer Christmas Carol” folklore festival was held at the Krasnoye Ozero resort.
