St Seraphim of Vyritsa (Vasily Nikilayevich Muravyev; 1866-1949), Venerable, clergy figure. In 1876 he moved in St Petersburg and worked as a delivery man in the Gostiny Dvor. In 1890 he married and had children. From 1892 he was a salesman. In 1897 he graduated from the Higher Commerical School. In the early 1900s he traveled in the mount Athos and after the return he had received the blessing on the eldership from St John of Kronstadt. He was the spiritual sun of Venerable Varnava of Gethesemane, the spiritual adviser, and he began the ascetical life under the influence of Venerable Varnava of Gethesemane. From 1920 Muravyev was in the St Alexander Nevsky Lavra. 29 October 1920 he was professed as a monk under the name of Varnava (in that time his wife became the nun), then he was hierodeacon, hieromonk (1921). In 1924 he received the appointment as a treasurer and became the member of the Ecclesiastical Assembly. In 1926-1927 he took the great scheme under the name of Seraphim in honour of St Seraphim of Sarov. In the beginning of 1927 he was elected the Spiritual Father of the Lavra. From 1930 he lived in the Station Popovka at the dacha of Archpriest Leonid Bogoyavlensky because of the serious illness and according to the recommendation of doctors and Metropolitan of Leningrad Seraphim. From the spring of 1932 he lived in the village of Vyritsa. His former wife Serafima (Muravyeva), enclosed nun, also lived with him there. He was a parishioner of the Kazan Church. According to the legend he prayed, staying on a stone in the garden in front of the Icon of St Seraphim of Sarov, abou the saving of Russia and the revival of the Russian Orthodox Church during WWII ( when the village was occupied). He died in Vyritsa and was buried near the Kazan Church (now his relics is rested in the Chapel near the altar-space). He was cannonized at the Archiereus Assembly in 2000.
