Kirishi District coat of arms, the

The Kirishi District's coat of arms was approved with the decision of the municipality of the Municipal Union “Kirishsky rayon” (The Kirishi District) of 30 January 1997, No. 2/13. The heraldic description of the coat of arms: “Within the azure field there is a silver Old Russian boat faced to the left. The boat has a silver extremity which has three protuberances in the form of decaphyllous flowers (five leaves are visible).” The boat points to the location of the district on the banks of the Volkhov River. It was an ancient trade way (a part of “Put iz varyag v greki” (From the Varangians to the Greeks). The formation and development of the Russian State are related with the shipping on the Volkhov River. The decaphyllous flowers are made in the form of the traditional specific ornament that is often used in the national embroidery of the Kirishi District. It has ethnographic name “Kirishskiy ornament” (The Kirishi Ornament). The coat of arms was registered in the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation under the No. 141.
