THE STARAYA LADOGA RURAL LIBRARY (1 Sovetstkaya Street, Staraya Ladoga Village).
The library took over from the reading room which was open in 1913 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty at the request / solicitation of Staroladozhskoe Loan Company. Since 1977 the library had the status of the branch within the centralized library network. Since 2006 it has been part of Information-and-leisure centre of the settlement. The library fund numbers 17,000 items, with 30 to 35 thousand loans annually. It has 1,500 readers, with 10,000 visits every year. For over ten years the library has run “Yuny kraeved” (The Young Local Historian) club for schoolchildren, supervised by V. L. Borisova, research worker of the “Staraya Ladoga” (Old Ladoga) reserve museum. At the 2003 Leningrad Oblast book-and-history forum of library workers forum “Drevnyaya Rus’ i sovremennaya Rossiya” (The Old and Contemporary Russia) the library ranked third for its programme of local study research “Istoriya malykh dereven’” (The History of Small Villages). The library is also the venue for literary festivals, contests, round tables, quizzes and family evenings.
