The Staraya Ladoga Historical, Architectural and Archaeological Museum-reserve (the Volkhov District, the village of Staraya Ladoga, 19 Volkhov Prospekt). It was founded on 23 August 1966 and was presented for visitors on 15 July 1971. The museum-reserve occupies the territory 190 hectares where about 160 monuments of the 17th - the early 20th centuries are located: stone constructions of the Staraya Ladoga Fortress; the church of St. George the Victorious, the Great Martyr with frescos of the 12th century; the earthwork gorodishche (ancient fortified settlement) of the 13th-14th centuries; the wooden church of St. Demetrius of Thesslonica, the Great Martyr of the 17th century and others. The museum expositions - "The Beginning of Rus. Ladoga of the 8th - 11th centuries, "ladoga if the Advanced Post of Russian Land", "Ethnography of the Southern Ladoga Lake Region", "Russian Costume and Interior between the 19th and 20th centuries", "The Monumental Painting of the 12th century" - are presented in differ architectural sights of the museum-reserve. In the museum funds there are 143 thousand items including many frescos' fragments, archaeological and ethnographic collections, a collection of easel painting (more then 400 works) and others. Archeological dig and restoration works have been continued on the museum-reserve territory. Concerts of folk groups and classical music are held in the church of St. George the Victorious, the Great Martyr. The folklore festival "The Glory Wreath of Alexander Nevsky" and other popular festivals are carried out at the Ladoga gortress. Every year more then 150 thousand people visit the museum -reserve.
