Kaskova, a country estate

Subject / Architecture/Country estates

Kaskova (Kaskovo), a country estate (the village of Kaskovo, the Volosovo district). In 1805-07 during building Narva Road in the village of Kaskovo a post station was built according to the standard-type project by L. Ruska. Near the road in the former river-bed there was an estate that belonged to Lieutenant-General P.F. Veimarn since 1834. Under him in the late 1830s a big wooden manor-house with wings and verandah was built. The manor-house was located at the edge of the gentle slope and pathes forked from it to the horseshoe-shaped pond with an island. At the side of the house there was a park with wide alleys. In the 1880s Under Infantry General A.P. Veimarn, a grandson of P.F. Veimarn, the estate was enlarged due to neighbouring groves which were connected to the park. When Narva Road was straighted the estate was cut with the road that cut off the meadow and ponds from the estate. Stone walls of service constructions and oak and lime tree alleys have been intacted. On the place of the manor-house there is a modern construction now.
