"Luga film gathering", a film festival

“LUZHSKIYE KINOPOSIDELKY” (“FILM VIEWING IN LUGA TOWN”), international biannual festival of amateur short films. It is held in Luga Town on “Luga Film” studio initiative with the assistance of Culture Committee under the Leningrad Oblast Government, the Leningrad Oblast Education and Methodology Centre of Culture and Art, Luga Town and Luga District local authorities and some other institutions. The festival was first held in 1992 and then it took place in 1994, 1997, 1999 and 2005. It is a festival of amateur filmmakers. Festival films are divided into2 categories (films made by adult and young filmmakers) and can be of the following kinds: feature films, documentaries, cartoons, popular science films, travel films, educational films and also TV programs. Festival jury consists of Russian and foreign filmmakers and well known amateur filmmakers; children’s jury awards a prize for the best festival film for children. In different years amateur filmmakers from 9 foreign countries and from more than 20 Russian towns took part in the festival, more than 350 films and videos were shown. As a part of the festival international video forum of young authors has been held since 1994, in 2005 international audio and video production workshop was organized. Festival prize-winner films are shown in schools, recreation centres, country clubs of Luga District.
