Zakharov, Andreyan (Adrian) Dmitriyevich (1761-1811), an architect

Andreyan (Adrian) Dmitriyevich Zakharov (1761-1811), an architect. From 1767 to 1782 he learned at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts from Yu.M. Felten and A.A. Ivanov. Then till 1786 he learned at Zh.F. Shalgren's workshop in Paris. From 1787 to 1811 he taught the architeture course at the Academy of Arts, from 1794 he became an academician, from 1797 he became a professor of the academy. The top of Zakharov's creative work is the reconstruction of the Admitalty building in St. Petersburg (it was started from 1806, it was finished in 1823 after Zakharov's death). During 1799-1801 A.D. Zakharov was the chief architect of Gatchina Town. He took part in the reconstruction of the Gatchina Palace, in designing and building town and palace-and-park constructions: pavilion "Ptichnik" ("Poultry-yard") and "Ferma" ("The Farm") in the park of "Zverinets" ("Menagerie"); the Lion Bridge over the channel between Black Lake and Carp Pond; the Humpbacked Bridge that connects two parts of Long Island on White Lake; the Cold Bath (it was not intacted). He built the Lutheran Church of St. Peter the Apostle in the village of Maliye Kolpani (Gatchina district). Andreyan Dmitriyevich Zakharov was buried in the Smolenskoye Orthodox cemetery in St. Petersburg. In 1940 his ashes was carried to the Necropolis of the 18th century of the Alexander Nevski Monastery.
