Luigi Ruska (1762 - 1822), an architect. Ruska originated from Switzerland. In 1783 he arrived into st. Petersburg, he worked as a bricklayer with Yu.M. Felten, G. Quarenghi, F.I. Volkov, E.T. Sokolov, V. Brenna. He started working independently in the 1790s. Most known works in St. Petersburg: barracks of the Grenadersky, Kavalergarssky and Izmailovsky regiments, the Jesuit Order House, the palace of the Bobrinskys (of P.V. Myatlev), the portico of Perinnaya Line, the Church of Consolation of allthe Afficted in Shpalernaya Street. L. Ruska built in St. Petersburg suburbs and many other cities of Russia. Ruska made different works in palaces and parks of Gatchina and Ropsha towns. He built the Colonel Block of the Ropsha Palace (1802-1806). On the order of the Post Office Board in 1805 Ruska created the model project according to that post station houses along Narva and Moscow roads were built. The post station houses in villages Kipen (Lomonosov district), Kaskovo and Chirkovitsi (Volosovo district), Opolie (Kingisepp district), Pomeranie (Tosno district) are intacted till our days. In 1818 Luigi Ruska left Russia.
