Karlsky Peresheyek ("The Karelian Isthmus") is a national park. It is located in the territory of the Vsevolozhsk, Vyborg and Priozersk districts of the Leningrad Oblast. It occupies the area of 25 thousand hectares. It was founded with the decision of the Lenoblsovet of 8 April 1993. The next nature conservation objects are the part of the national park: the Koltushi hills (environs of the Tokkari Village, Orovo Village, Ligolambi Village), the Youkkovsky woodland park (to the south and north from Youkki Village), the marsh Harvyazi (the Sestra River), the marsh Gontovoe (between Ladoga Lake and the marsh Sokolie), the marsh Lazarevskoe (between the Morsie river and branch railway Borisova Griva – Ladoga Lake), Kokorevsky (between the Settlement of the Morozov Name and the Kokorevo Village), Prinevsky (the right bank of the Neva River and highway Saint-Petersburg – Murmansk), the valley of the Smorodinka River. The purpose of the national park’s foundation is the saving of the natural potential of the unique region, the originality of its landscapes, relief, waters, the vegetable and animal kingdoms; the improving of the environment in the north part of the region that affects ecologic situation of the whole Baltic basin; the ensuring of the recreational necessities of the citizens of Saint-Petersburg agglomeration; the developing of the diversified researches, the arrangement of the international center of the ecological control (the monitoring of the environment); the ecological education of us. At present time the foundation of the national park is going on.
