Subject / Religion. Church/Orthodox churches

The Church of the Annunciation of the Mother of God (Ropsha Village, the Lomonosov District). According to some information the original Dimitrovskaya (?) church in a cemetery (on Knyazhye Gorka) was laid in 1500. During the period of the Sweden power there was a Lutheran church constructed from the quarry stone, it was built in the middle of the 17th century. As a result of the North War these land were passed to Russia and after that under Prince F.Yu. Romodanovsky in 1722 the church was converted into an Orthodox church.Under Count G.G. Orlov, the estate owner, in 1781 a stone bell tower was built up to the church and a wooden dome was constructed over the church. During 1815-1816 an overhaul was done for the money of the court department (the estimate was done by the architect I.I. Sharleman, works were done under surveillance of the architect Miller). The church was closed on 23 July 1939. It was damaged by bombardments during World War II. During the period of the Nazi occupation the church was used as a kostel. At the present time the church is in ruins. It is the only work of the religious Swedish architecture of the second half of the 17th century on the territory of Russia survived until the present days. The building is under the protection of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). A project of the restoration of the church is being done . Irregular public worships were begun to perform from the Easter of 2002.
