"Day of the Leningard Oblast", holiday of the oblast (region)

“DEN LENINGRADSKOY OBLASTY” (“THE DAY OF THE LENINGRAD OBLAST”), the oblast holiday. It is celebrated in the beginning of August (The resolution about the establishment of the Leningrad Oblast was issued by the Soviet Central Executive Committee and Russian Federation Soviet of People’s Commissars on the 1st of August 1927.). Originally the holiday was celebrated in St.Petersburg. Since 2004, on the initiative of the Leningrad Oblast Governor, festive activities have been held in one of the district centres in turn. In 2004 it was in Tikhvin Town, in 2005 – in Shlisselburg Town, in 2006 – in Tosno Town. Delegations of different regional Municipal Institutions, official guests, honoured citizens of the Leningrad Oblast take part in festivities. The best workers from the Leningrad Oblast enterprises are awarded prizes and souvenirs. Demonstrations, festivals, exhibitions of artists and craftsmen, contests of amateur and folk arts groups are held on the day of the holiday.
