FESTIVAL OF THE LENINGRAD OBLAST PUPPET THEATRES. It has been held in the Leningrad Oblast since 1991. In the last years it got the name “Kukol’ny Dom” (“A Doll’s House”). The festival is held once in two years, its program includes puppet shows of the best oblast children’s puppet theatres. The festival participants make shows in different genres: fairy-tales, plays, variety shows, puppet Scriptural mystery plays, modern plays. The theatres use puppets of different kinds (stick, board, Punch-and-Judy, puppets, “full length”), they make stage decorations using modern materials. The theatres demonstrate new forms and plastique, puppet handling technique, acting technique. Professional jury consists of directors and set designers. Also children’s jury, which awards spectators’ prize, works. In 2005 the festival took place in Slantsi Town, the first prize was awarded to the puppet theatre “Kovcheg” (“Puppet Show Box”) from Voyskovitsi Settlement Centre of Social and Cultural Activities (Gatchina District).
