Smerdovitsi, a country estate

Smerdovitsi, a country estate (the village of Smerdovitsi, the Volosovo district). A settlement on the territory had been since the 11-12ve century. In the 14-15th century lands belonged to the Novgorod Yury Monastery. In 1802 the village was bought by A.I. Tizengauzen. Under her the manor-house was built, the park was laid out, service blocks, a mill (the middle of the 19th century) and hothouses were constructed. The landscape and regular plannind were combined in the estate park. During the 19th century the estate owners enlarged its territory, improved the park, rebuilt the manor-house. In the end of 19th century the estate was leased. In 1896 it was leased by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov who composed the opera "Sadko" there. The manor-house was destroyed during World War II.
